AGAINST ALL ODDS

(May 10th, 2006 No. 73)
The Colo-i-Suva polling station yesterday went through its second day of polling without much activity as voters were probably held back by the weather.
However, braving the elements to cast his vote at Colo-i-Suva was seventy five year (75) old Taito Nagalu a resident of Waila near Nausori.
The frail old man, who travelled by bus to the polling station was excited to take part in this year’s general elections.
Travelling by himself in the rain without an umbrella to shelter him, Taito was ecstatic as he went through the motions of the electoral process through to making his decision in the booth.
He thanked the Almighty for giving him the opportunity to vote and that this was only his second time to vote.
Taito who hails from Nasogo today applauded the election officials for such an effective manner in which the polling was done today. He said that it was very easy for him and that he did not have to wait very long to cast his vote.
Taito was one of just a handful of voters who turned up at Colo-i-Suva yesterday to cast their votes.
Priority was given to the elderly and to the disabled in all polling centers so as not to prolong their wait and to avoid queues which were sometimes inevitable.
Meanwhile, polling centres around the country today all went through their third day smoothly.
