DIMURI WINS BUA/MACUATA WEST OPEN

Ratu Josefa Dimuri of the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua (SDL) party has been declared the winner of the Bua/Macuata West open seat by the Returning Officer Northern, Misieli Naivalu at the Labasa college count centre.

He won on the first count ahead of six other candidates from the National Alliance Party, National Federation Party and two that were Independent.

Three NAP candidates, Josefa Cavu accumulated 939 votes while Hazrat Ali 48 votes and Vitori Cavalevu with only 30 votes. NFP’s Josefa Rusaqoli had 565 votes, while independents Suliasi Saraqia had 528 and Isireli Tuvuki 235 votes.

The total number of ballot papers counted was 16,567 and the total number of invalid votes was 1297 leaving the total number of valid ballot papers at 15,270.

The number of voters required for majority (50% +1) was 7,636.

The total number of first preferences received was 15,270.

Independent candidate, Mr Tuvuki won this seat during the 2001 general election.
