KRISHNA DATT WINS NASINU INDIAN COMMUNAL

The Nasinu Indian communal seat previously held by Pratap Chand during the 2001 general election has been won by Fiji Labour Party’s Krishna Datt.
Mr Datt won on the first count with 10,940 votes ahead of five candidates from the National Federation Party (NFP) National Alliance Party of Fiji (NAPF) and the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanau (SDL) party.
Mohammed Khalim of NFP had 615 votes, while Hari Prasad Sharma SDL had 5 votes, Imraz Iqbal also of SDL scored 226 votes, Fatima Bano Shad of National Alliance had 28 votes, Liaquat Khan also of NAPF had 222 votes.
The total number of ballot papers counted were 13,327 with invalid papers being 1,291 which totals the number of valid papers as 12,036. The number of voters required for majority was 6,019.
