QARASE RETAINS SEAT

The caretaker Prime Minister has again retained his seat in the Lau Fijian Communal Constituency.

Mr. Qarase of the Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua Party (SDL) was declared winner over the candidate from the National Alliance Party (NAP).

In addition, Mr. Qarase recorded a majority of 4896 votes compared to his rival who managed only 350 votes.

Furthermore, a total of 5943 votes was counted 5246 of which was declared as valid against 697 votes which were invalid.

The required amount for a majority was 2624.
