MACUATA FIJIAN RETAINED BY LEWENIQILA

The caretaker Minister for Youth Isireli Leweniqila has retained the Macuata Fijian communal seat with 7,075 votes at the first count.

The other candidates who lost out were Samuela Wasasala of the National Federation Party with 215 votes, Savenaca Damudamu an independent with 103 votes, Samuela Nakete of the Fiji Labour Party with 459 votes and Erami Biaunisala with 295 votes.

The number of ballot papers counted was 8,956 less the total number of invalid ballot papers 809 leaving the total number of valid papers at 8,147.

The number of voters required for the majority (50% + 1) was 4,075.
