UDIT NARAYAN WINS LAUTOKA RURAL INDIAN

The Fiji Labour Party’s Udit Narayan has won the Lautoka Rural Indian communal seat with 6,832 votes.

Gaining the absolute majority on the first count, Mr Narayan won ahead SDL’s Mohammed Shameem 252 votes, National Alliance’s Deo Kumar 125 votes and Narend Prasad of the National Federation party with 1,643 votes.

The number of ballot papers counted was 9,841 with a total number of invalid papers 989 an the total number of valid papers being 8,852.

The number of registered voters in this constituency is 11,153 and the number of voters required for the absolute majority is 4,427.

Meanwhile, Gyani Nand of the Fiji Labour Party has won the Suva City Indian Communal seat with 7,660 votes.

Behind him were Shiu Ram of the COIN party with 20 votes, Dildar Shah of the National Alliance with 405 votes, NFP’s Chandra Kant Umaria with 1,675 votes and Mohammed Salmat Ali of the SDL with 147 votes.

The total number of ballot papers counted was 10,618 with invalid papers being 711 leaving the total number of papers counted as 4,955.
