KONROTE WINS ROTUMA COMMUNAL ON THIRD COUNT

(May 16th, 2006 No. 121)

Independent candidate Jioji Konousi Konrote has tonight been declared the winner of the Rotuma Communal seat by the Returning Officer Eastern Tomasi Tui.

He won on the third progressive count with 2,508 votes and lagging behind was Victor Fatiaki (Independent) with 1,348 votes, Sosefo Inoke with 245 votes, Mua Ieli Taukave with 566 votes and Sosefo Kafoa with 531 votes.

Inoke was excluded in the first count, Kafoa in the second count and Taukave and Fatiaki bowed out in the third count.

The total number of ballot papers counted was 4,737 with the total invalid papers being 302 leaving 4435 as the number of valid ballot papers. The number of voters required for the majority was 2,219.
