Dissolution of House of Representatives - 27th March, 2006
The House of Representatives was dissolved on this date

Writs of General Election Issued - 28th March, 2006
Writs for the general election are required to be issued within 7 days from the expiry of the House of Representatives.

Petition of Demonstrated Support - 31st March, 2006
Last day for the Supervisor to receive a Petition of Demonstrated Support

Close of Electoral Rolls - 4th April, 2006
The electoral rolls must close 7 days after writ day or the day in which the writs for the general election are issued. This date is therefore the last day to register as a voter.

Nomination Day - 11th April, 2006
Nomination Day is the last day for receiving a nomination of a candidate for election to the House of Representatives. Nomination Day is the 14th day after the date of the writs.

Objection Day – 12th April, 2006
Objections to nominations are received between 9am – 1pm, 2pm – 4pm at the offices of the returning officers.

Last Day for Lodging of Lists of Preferences – 18th April, 2006

Polling Period - 6th May to 13th May, 2006
Polling commences not later than 30 days after Nomination Day.

Transfer of Boxes/Logistics Day – 14th May, 2006

The Count - 15th May, 2006
Counting commences.
